Copyright message on the google homepage

Currently reading the book 'The Google Story" by David Vise. Fascinating story. One episode worth describing.

At a session held by google.com for studying the behavior of first time search users, Marissa Mayer, the session coordinator (latest CEO of Yahoo!) observed that people just typed google.com and waited anywhere between 45 seconds to 1 minute. On probing further, most of the respondents said that they were waiting for the rest of the page of load! In the late 90s/early 2000s, before the age of broadband and 3G, coupled with cluttered website designs and pop-ups, the simple and clean google homepage came as a breath of fresh air.
To remedy the issue, google decided that the copyright text at the bottom of the page be written in a larger font and made prominent to signal the users 'This is it! Please proceed'.

What is your hobby?

When I first prepared my resume for a job in 2006, the question that I found most difficult to answer was 'What is your hobby?' Having studied in a small school, there was no major focus on sports (we had a 30 minute Sports 'period' on a Friday afternoon). Exposure to books was also restricted to best selling fictional novels till engineering days. The leisure time was mostly spent on chit-chat with friends and watching TV. The realization that chit-chat and TV don't really add up to a decent hobby that one might convey to the interviewer led me to try out different hobbies at different points in time.

However, living in a city like Mumbai where bulk of the time outside office hours is spent in commuting, there is little scope for other activities... In the precious little time that is left, it is very essential to focus on a particular activity (at the max 2 activities) and pursue it diligently to achieve a measurable degree of success

Now, as Agent Smith would tell Neo in 'The Matrix', the problem is CHOICE ... Books, movies, sports, financial planning, business planning, Indian History, politics of India, and not to forget TV and Facebook .... where does one settle down .. One may say that I should opt for the one that I am most passionate about. Having dabbled with all these activities with varying degrees of success, the scales are evenly poised ... am equally passionate (or dispassionate) about all the above ..

This has kind of brought me to a dead end in my pursuit of a stable hobby and the question 'What is your hobby?' continues to haunt me...

Welcome Back Self ..

Yet another start .. yet another welcome... hope this time its lasts longer and is more fruitful ..
